NiMet Releases Forecast On States To Experience Thunderstorms, Rains From Wednesday To Friday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted thunderstorms and rain across the country from Wednesday to Friday.

In its weather outlook released on Tuesday in Abuja, NiMet forecasted thunderstorms in the northern region, affecting parts of Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, Katsina, Sokoto, and Kaduna States during the morning hours on Wednesday.

Additionally, NiMet expects thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening over parts of Kano, Borno, Katsina, Adamawa, Kaduna, Taraba, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Jigawa States.

In the North Central region, NiMet forecasted thunderstorms for the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, and Niger States in the morning.

Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected to extend to the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Niger, and Kwara States.

In the southern region, thunderstorms are anticipated in Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun, Ondo, Lagos, Edo, Delta, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States during the morning.

The agency also predicted intermittent rains later in the day over Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Anambra, Edo, Ekiti, Oyo, Rivers, Cross River, Delta, and Akwa Ibom States.

For Thursday, NiMet forecasts thunderstorms in parts of Taraba and Adamawa States during the morning hours in the northern region.

Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected to impact Kano, Kaduna, Bauchi, Jigawa, Katsina, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba States.

In the North Central region, rains are anticipated in Plateau and Benue States during the morning.

In the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms are expected to affect the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Kogi, Niger, Kwara, and Benue States.

In southern cities, NiMet anticipates intermittent rains over parts of Enugu and Anambra States during the morning.

Later in the day, intermittent rains are expected in Ondo, Edo, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Imo, Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Cross River, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Delta States.

For Friday morning in the northern region, thunderstorms are forecasted over parts of Adamawa and Taraba States.

Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected to affect Taraba, Borno, Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, and Zamfara States.

The agency forecasts rain over parts of Nasarawa and Niger during the morning hours in the North Central region. Later in the day, localized thunderstorms are expected in Kogi, the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, and Niger States.

In southern cities, cloudy skies are anticipated in the morning, with thunderstorms likely over inland areas later in the day. Coastal cities may experience intermittent rains.

Residents are advised to avoid flood-prone areas due to the high risk of urban flooding from heavy downpours. NiMet also warns that strong winds may precede thunderstorms.

Airline operators are encouraged to obtain airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from NiMet for effective operational planning.
