Labour Party Asks EFCC To Probe Peter Obi, Aisha Yesufu, Afenifere, Gives Reason

The Labour Party’s National Working Committee, chaired by Julius Abure, has requested an investigation by the National Security Adviser and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission into Aisha Yesufu, Pastor Itua Ighodalo, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, and Afenifere leaders for alleged misappropriation of funds from the 2023 presidential campaign.

The request was made by the LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, during a press conference in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Wednesday.

Arabambi expressed concern over Yesufu’s recent defense against claims of misappropriating campaign funds.

The party alleges that Yesufu, along with Pastor Ighodalo and others, mismanaged and diverted over N12 billion and $15 million in donations meant for the campaign.

He dismissed Yesufu’s denials as attempts to conceal the alleged financial misconduct and criticized her statements as an affront to the party’s leadership. Arabambi also accused Yesufu and her associates of working under Obi’s direction to defraud the party, labeling Obi a “political merchant.”

Additionally, Arabambi alleged that Afenifere leaders, including Pa Ayo Adebanjo, Akin Osuntokun, and Sola Ebiseni, retained over N600 million in private accounts linked to Afenifere, accusing them of being hired by Obi to commit fraud and divert campaign funds.

“The trio of Pa Ayo Adebanjo, Akin Osuntokun, and Sola Ebiseni were involved in financial infractions totaling over ₦600m, which they have kept in private accounts and Afenifere accounts,” Arabambi stated. “Peter Obi allegedly hired Aisha Yesufu, Pastor Itua Ighodalo, and this faction of Afenifere to commit looting, criminal conspiracy, and diversion of funds from the Labour Party’s presidential campaign while presenting themselves as elder statesmen.”

Arabambi emphasized the party’s dedication to transparency and accountability, calling for a comprehensive investigation into all bank accounts connected to the alleged misconduct.

He urged a thorough examination of the accounts linked to Adebanjo, Osuntokun, and Ebiseni to determine the extent of Afenifere’s involvement in the suspected fraud.
