Southampton Vs Manchester United Full Time Match Report

Matthijs de Ligt scored his first goal for Manchester United in their crucial Premier League win at Southampton.

After a disappointing loss to Liverpool before the international break, Erik ten Hag’s side needed a strong performance upon their return.

Despite a challenging start, the game turned in their favor when Andre Onana saved a penalty from Cameron Archer.

Shortly afterward, De Ligt headed in the opener from a superb cross by Bruno Fernandes, finding the bottom corner of the net.

Six minutes later, Manchester United extended their lead when Marcus Rashford scored his first goal of the season, netting a low shot through a crowded area.

This second goal appeared to dampen Southampton’s spirit, allowing Manchester United to manage the game comfortably in the second half.

Southampton’s frustrations were compounded when Jack Stephens received a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Alejandro Garnacho late in the match.

Garnacho then sealed the victory for United with a powerful strike into the top corner deep into stoppage time.
