BREAKING: Edo People Aren’t Dumb, They Don’t Need Wike To Know Whom To Vote For – Obaseki

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has downplayed concerns that his political fallout with the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, will impact the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) chances in the upcoming gubernatorial election.

Wike, who played a crucial role in Obaseki’s 2020 victory against the APC’s Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has since distanced himself from Obaseki and announced he will not support the PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo, in this election.

However, in an interview on Channels Television’s *Politics Today* on Thursday, Obaseki dismissed any fears about Wike’s stance affecting the election outcome, asserting that the people of Edo State are capable of making their own informed choices.

“He (Wike) came to get Edo people to vote for me, right? Wow! Edo people are not that dumb, they know who to vote for,” Obaseki said.

“They don’t require the services of an outsider to make their decisions. Edo people will make their decisions this time because they know what they want.”

Governor Godwin Obaseki has expressed no regrets about his falling out with political associates, including Adams Oshiomhole and Philip Shaibu. He stated that some politicians are displeased with him because he has directed government funds towards addressing the needs of the people.

Recently, Obaseki faced criticism for describing the Edo governorship election as a “do or die” affair. He has since clarified that his statement reflects his belief that the state would face serious challenges if the APC were to gain control.

“It’s a do or die affair because if they do, we die. The level of impunity, the level of recklessness we see in the opposition party, if they take over Edo state, finished – that is the end,” Obaseki said.

Governor Obaseki stood by his “do or die” statement, citing the perceived impunity of the APC in the lead-up to the election.

He accused the opposition party of orchestrating plans to manipulate the election results but expressed confidence that the people of Edo State would resist such attempts.
