Lebanon PM Calls For Ceasefire With Israel

Lebanon’s Prime Minister Najib Mikati called for a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah during a meeting with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot in Beirut on Monday.

Mikati emphasized that the solution lies in halting Israeli aggression against Lebanon and reviving the ceasefire appeal initiated by the United States and France.

His statement, released by his office, stressed the importance of diplomatic efforts to stop the escalating violence.

Barrot, who arrived in Beirut on Sunday, became the first foreign diplomat to visit Lebanon since Israel intensified its strikes on Hezbollah strongholds.

Mikati also highlighted the need to implement United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended the 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah.

The French minister’s visit coincided with a deadly Israeli airstrike on a building in central Beirut, as Israeli attacks have primarily targeted Hezbollah strongholds in the south, east, and southern parts of the capital.
