Northern Elders Forum Reacts To Tinubu’s Speech

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has expressed disappointment that President Bola Tinubu’s speech on the #EndBadGovernance protests failed to address the issue of banditry, which the group highlighted as a major cause of death and destruction in the northern regions of the country.

In a statement on Monday, NEF’s spokesperson, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, emphasized that armed banditry is creating severe humanitarian crises in these regions.

He noted that the President’s speech should have acknowledged this issue to demonstrate his political will to tackle the problem.

President Tinubu had addressed Nigerians on Sunday following three days of protests across the country against the high cost of living and “bad governance.”

However, the NEF expressed dismay that the speech did not mention the banditry, kidnapping, rape, and other criminal activities ravaging the Northwest and other parts of the north, which have left the population in a state of pervasive fear and insecurity.
