BREAKING: FG Threatens To Withdraw Oil Marketers’ Licences, Gives Reason

The Federal Government has warned that it will revoke the licenses of oil marketers found guilty of hoarding Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, amid the ongoing scarcity affecting Abuja, Niger, Nasarawa, Kaduna, and other states.

Many states, particularly in the North, have experienced prolonged petrol shortages, leading to the closure of several filling stations due to insufficient supply.

In response, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has issued a stern warning to oil marketers.

The authority stated that filling stations engaged in hoarding petrol or selling it to black marketers in jerrycans risk having their licenses revoked.

The warning was delivered by Ogbugo Ukoha, Executive Director of Distribution Systems, Storage, and Retailing Infrastructure at NMDPRA, in a video shared by the regulator during an inspection tour in Abuja.

Ukoha emphasized the seriousness of the warning, advising managers to seek additional security if needed and urging them to stop facilitating the sale of petrol to black marketers.

Ukoha highlighted that such practices not only jeopardize safety but must be stopped immediately. The NMDPRA also declared a crackdown on the illegal sale of petroleum products through its X handle.

“NMDPRA embarks on a war against the illegal sale of petroleum products, especially PMS in jerrycans. Filling stations are advised to desist from servicing illegal peddlers; failure to do so would result in the suspension of retail licences,” the agency stated.
