BREAKING: List Of States That Declared Tuesday August 20 Public Holiday

Some state governments have announced public holiday to celebrate Isese Day.

Lagos, Osun, Oyo, and Ogun have declared Tuesday, 20 August, a public holiday to commemorate Isese Day.

This announcement was made through separate circulars on Monday by each state’s commissioner of information.

In Lagos, Bode Agoro, the head of service, stated that this decision reaffirms Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to supporting traditional institutions and promoting indigenous traditions. Agoro also noted that public workers in the state are expected to resume work by 8 a.m. on Wednesday.

Shortly after, the Ogun state government also declared Tuesday a work-free day to mark the festival in a post on X. The post emphasized the Dapo Abiodun-led administration’s commitment to religious inclusivity.

Kayode Akinmade, the special adviser to the Ogun governor on media and strategy, added that the work-free day will allow traditional worshippers across the state to celebrate the festival. He also highlighted Ogun state’s exemplary religious cohesion and harmony despite its diversity.

The government urged traditional worshippers in the state to celebrate with moderation and respect the rights of other religions. Additionally, worshippers were encouraged to use the festive period to pray for peace and economic progress in Ogun state and Nigeria.

Both Oyo and Osun states also approved Tuesday as a public holiday for the celebration.
