The Court of Appeal in Abuja has overturned a Federal High Court ruling that mandated the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to include 381 ad-hoc delegates in its February 22 primary election for Edo State.

This primary had resulted in Asue Ighodalo being chosen as the PDP candidate for the governorship election scheduled for September 21, 2024.

The appellate court’s three-judge panel set aside the previous judgment by Justice Inyang Ekwo, which was delivered on July 4, 2024.

The court found that the trial court lacked jurisdiction to hear the case, as the delegates did not have the necessary legal standing to initiate the suit.
In a unanimous decision, the Court of Appeal stated that it would not interfere with the PDP’s process for selecting its candidate for the upcoming governorship election in Edo State.
