The Court of Appeal in Abuja has overturned a Federal High Court ruling that required the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to include 381 ad-hoc delegates in its February 22 primary election for Edo State.
This primary had led to Asue Ighodalo being selected as the party’s candidate for the governorship election scheduled for September 21, 2024.

A three-judge panel of the appellate court nullified the decision made by Justice Inyang Ekwo on July 4, 2024.
The panel ruled that the trial court lacked jurisdiction to hear the case, as the delegates did not have the legal standing to file the suit.
The Court of Appeal’s unanimous decision emphasized that it would not interfere with the PDP’s process for selecting its candidate for the governorship election.
