A second-half goal from Joao Pedro allowed Brighton to equalize after Arsenal’s Declan Rice was sent off, in an exciting match in north London.

Arsenal seemed set to extend their perfect season start when Bukayo Saka assisted Kai Havertz, who lobbed Bart Verbruggen in the Brighton goal to open the scoring in the 38th minute.

However, the game shifted dramatically after Declan Rice received a second yellow card in the 49th minute for delaying a free-kick by Joel Veltman.

Brighton’s defender was fortunate not to receive a card himself in the incident.

With Arsenal down to ten men, Brighton intensified their attack and equalized in the 58th minute.

David Raya parried Yankuba Minteh’s shot into Joao Pedro’s path, and the Brazilian striker calmly slotted the ball past the keeper.

Havertz had a chance to secure a win for Arsenal but was thwarted by Verbruggen. Later, Brighton’s substitute Yasin Ayari saw his effort saved by Raya.

Brighton kept pressing for a winner, bringing on their new £39.5m signing Georginio Rutter, but his mistimed header meant they couldn’t find the decisive goal.
