Dangote Refinery Begins Petrol Processing

The Dangote Refinery, with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, has started processing petrol, according to an official.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) will exclusively purchase its products, Reuters reported on Monday.

“We are testing the product (petrol), and subsequently, it will start flowing into the product tanks,” Devakumar Edwin, a vice president at Dangote Industries Limited, was quoted by Reuters as saying.

Mr. Edwin did not specify when the product would be available in the local market.

He clarified that NNPC Ltd, Nigeria’s sole importer, would exclusively purchase the refinery’s gasoline.

“If no one is buying it, we will export it as we have been exporting our aviation jet fuel and diesel,” Mr Edwin said.

This recent development could alleviate NNPC Ltd’s challenge in supplying the local market and help address the fuel shortages that have affected major cities across Nigeria in recent months.
