List Of States To Experience Heavy Rainfall This Week

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted heavy rainfall across Bauchi, Niger, Bayelsa, and nine additional states this week.

The other states expecting significant rain include Kaduna, Plateau, the Federal Capital Territory, Taraba, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Abia, Rivers, and Delta.

This information is detailed in NiMet’s weekly weather forecast bulletin, which covers the period from September 10 to September 16.

It reads: “During the week, the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) is expected to remain weak over the West African region but good moisture influx and velocity potential are expected to enhance the prospects of heavy rainfall over parts of Bauchi, Kaduna, Plateau, Niger, the Federal Capital Territory, Taraba, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Abia, Rivers, Delta and Bayelsa states.”

The forecast also indicates that moderate to heavy rainfall is anticipated in parts of Adamawa, Katsina, Kano, Zamfara, Kebbi, Nasarawa, Kwara, Benue, Ebonyi, Imo, Anambra, Edo, Ondo, Ado-Ekiti, Osun, Oyo, Ogun, and Lagos states.

Moderate rainfall is expected in certain areas of Enugu and Kebbi states.

In addition, low to moderate rainfall is predicted for parts of Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, and Sokoto states, while the rest of the country will likely see minimal rainfall.

The agency has issued a warning about potential flash floods affecting roads, bridges, and low-lying areas, which could disrupt traffic.

The public is advised to take necessary safety measures, including avoiding walking through rapidly flowing runoff waters, paths, and river channels.
