The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has criticized the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for selling petrol from the Dangote Refinery at a higher price than imported petrol.
John Kekeocha, IPMAN’s National Welfare Officer, made this statement during an appearance on Channels Television’s *The Morning Brief* breakfast program on Monday.

“If NNPC can sell Dangote products higher than the imported products then it doesn’t make sense. What is the celebration we are having all these while then?” he queried.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) started loading its first batch of petrol from the Dangote Refinery on Sunday, stating that it acquired the petrol at N898 per litre from the private refinery.
Prior to this, NNPCL retail outlets in Lagos were selling petrol at around N855 per litre. However, the price of petrol from the Dangote Refinery is now listed at N950 per litre in Lagos and N1,019 in Borno.
The Dangote Refinery, however, has disputed this claim, with spokesman Anthony Chiejina describing the NNPCL’s assertion as “misleading and mischievous” in a statement released late Sunday.

“It should also be noted that we sold the products to NNPCL in dollars with a lot of savings against what they are currently importing. With this action, there will be petrol in every local government area of the country regardless of their remote nature,” Chiejina said.
The NNPCL has maintained that it acquired petrol from the Dangote Refinery at N898 per litre and has urged the refinery to disclose the actual price it charged.
Additionally, the NNPCL has provided a detailed breakdown of the pricing for Dangote petrol at its filling stations nationwide.
