BREAKING: Yahaya Bello Finally Honours EFCC Invitation

Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has responded to an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), his media office confirmed on Wednesday.

In a statement signed by Ohiare Michael, Director of the Yahaya Bello Media Office, it was noted that Bello’s decision to appear before the anti-graft agency followed consultations with his family, legal team, and political associates.

The statement, titled “Former Governor Yahaya Bello Honors EFCC’s Invitation,” also mentioned that Bello was accompanied to the EFCC headquarters by several prominent Nigerians.

The former governor has been engaged in an ongoing dispute with the anti-graft agency over alleged financial misconduct during his tenure as Kogi State’s chief executive.

He, along with three other individuals, faces 19 charges related to money laundering involving approximately N80.2 billion.

The statement revealed that the former governor personally engaged with the EFCC to clear his name, asserting that he has “nothing to hide and nothing to fear.”

It was noted that he had previously sought to enforce his fundamental rights to ensure due process throughout the ongoing investigation.

“The case has been before a competent court of jurisdiction, and Alhaji Yahaya Bello had been duly represented by his legal team at every hearing. It is important for the former Governor to now honour the invitation of the EFCC to clear his name as he has nothing to hide and nothing to fear.

“The former Governor believes firmly in the efforts of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to place Nigeria on the path of sustainable economic development; and supports the fight against corruption in the country,” the statement read.

In April, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede pledged to resign if the embattled former governor was not prosecuted.

Olukoyede committed to pursuing Mr. Bello’s prosecution to its logical conclusion and vowed that anyone who obstructed the former governor’s arrest would be held accountable.
