BREAKING: #EdoDecides2024: Details Emerge As Obaseki Storms INEC Office

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State visited the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) head office in Edo State in the early hours of Sunday.

Accompanied by his security aides, the governor entered the office of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for a meeting that lasted over an hour.

The INEC headquarters in Benin, the Edo State capital, serves as the main collation center for the ongoing governorship election.

While Obaseki was in the REC’s office, supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) protested outside, arguing that it was inappropriate for the governor to meet with INEC officials during the election.

The leader of the protest was eventually allowed to join the closed-door meeting.

Obaseki left the INEC office at around 4:45 a.m., but his security team prevented journalists from speaking with him.

Although the collation of results had not yet started, INEC had made considerable progress uploading results to its portal.

At the time of filing this report, results from 4,259 polling units had been uploaded on IReV out of the expected 4,519.
