How Okpebholo’s Running Mate, Idahosa Led APC Supporters To Protest Against Obaseki’s Presence At INEC Office

In the early hours of Sunday, some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) stormed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office around 3:30 a.m., demanding that Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, leave the premises.

The APC members argued that the governor had no reason to be there, especially since election results had yet to be announced.

Obaseki reportedly entered the INEC premises on Aduwawa Road, Benin City, under the cover of darkness and positioned himself near the office of the Edo Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), where the results were being collated before their official announcement.

Hon. Dennis Idahosa, the APC deputy governorship candidate, led the protesters and was heard loudly demanding the governor’s removal. Alongside other party members, he insisted that Obaseki had no legitimate business being at the INEC office at that time.

He said, “Obaseki must come out. He is not supposed to be here. He is not an INEC Staff. Nigeria Police should not compromise.”

The protesters repeatedly attempted to gain access to the INEC premises but were blocked from entering. Despite banging on the gate multiple times, security personnel stationed at the entrance prevented them from getting inside.
