What Transpired When Hezbollah Fired Missiles At Mossad HQ In Israel

On Wednesday, the Israeli military announced that it was the “first time ever” a missile fired by Hezbollah reached the Tel Aviv area before being intercepted by air defenses.

This incident marks the first time Hezbollah has claimed a ballistic missile strike since the nearly year-long conflict with Israel intensified following Hamas’s attack on October 7.

“The Islamic Resistance launched a ‘Qader 1’ ballistic missile at 6:30 am (0330 GMT) on Wednesday, 25-9-2024, targeting the Mossad headquarters in the outskirts of Tel Aviv,” Hezbollah said in a statement.

“This headquarters is responsible for the assassination of leaders and the explosion of pagers and wireless devices,” it added, referring to attacks last week that killed scores in Lebanon including a top commander.

Hezbollah stated that the missile strike was conducted in support of the people of Gaza and “in defense of Lebanon and its people.”

The group claimed to have targeted the Israeli spy agency Mossad’s headquarters near Tel Aviv, alleging that recent attacks on them were planned there.

Military analyst Riad Kahwaji noted that this marked the first time Hezbollah has fired ballistic missiles at Israel, revealing that these were “Iranian-produced” variants of the Scud missile, with a range of approximately 300 kilometers (190 miles).

Hezbollah and Israel have engaged in near-daily cross-border exchanges since Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7, which sparked a war in Gaza that has involved Hezbollah and other Iran-backed militants from the region.

In recent days, Israel’s focus has shifted significantly from Gaza to Lebanon. Early Wednesday, a Lebanese security source reported an Israeli strike in the Saadiyat area near Beirut.

An AFP photographer at the scene observed damage to a garage and a nearby warehouse for electric appliances.

The Lebanese health ministry reported that Israeli strikes killed at least 558 people on Monday, marking the deadliest day of violence in the country since the civil war from 1975 to 1990.
