BREAKING: APC Loses Case In Court Over Upcoming Election

A Federal High Court in Kano has denied an application by the All Progressives Congress (APC) seeking to prevent the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) from conducting local government elections scheduled for October 26.

The motion, filed on September 20 by applicants Aminu Aliyu-Tiga and the APC, through their counsel Mustapha Idris, sought to restrain KANSIEC from proceeding with the elections and requested an injunction to maintain the status quo.

The respondents include KANSIEC, the Kano State House of Assembly, the Attorney General of Kano State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Department of State Services (DSS), the Commissioner of Police in Kano, and the NSCDC State Commandant, along with individuals such as Anas Muhammad-Mustapha, Prof. Sani Lawal-Malumfashi, Mukhtar Garba-Dandago, Isyaku Kunya, Shehu Kura, Kabiru Zakirai, and Aminu Inuwa-Fagge.

Justice Simon Amobeda dismissed the applicants’ request, stating that the respondents should be notified to explain why the application should not be granted.

The court also approved an expedited hearing of the case, instructing all parties to ensure necessary processes are filed promptly for a swift resolution.

Furthermore, the judge ordered that no party should take any action that could hinder the hearing and quick determination of the matter.

The case has been adjourned until October 4 for further hearing.

Additionally, NAN reports that on September 24, a Kano State High Court restrained 19 political parties from engaging in any activities that might disrupt the upcoming local government elections in the state.
