Naira Depreciates To N1,700 In Parallel Market

The Naira weakened on Friday, falling to N1,700 per dollar in the parallel market, compared to N1,675 per dollar the previous day.

In contrast, the Naira appreciated in the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market (NAFEM), rising to N1,540.78 per dollar.

Data from FMDQ indicated that the NAFEM exchange rate improved from N1,576.1 per dollar on Thursday, reflecting a gain of N35.32 for the Naira.

However, the turnover in the official market saw a significant drop, declining by 36.4% to $212.31 million from the $334.05 million recorded on Thursday.

As a result, the gap between the parallel market and NAFEM rates widened to N159.22 per dollar from N98.9 per dollar on Thursday.
