The Action Peoples Party (APP) has expressed its gratitude to the people of Rivers State and party supporters for their overwhelming backing in the recently concluded local government chairmanship elections.

On Saturday, the APP secured a landslide victory, winning 22 out of 23 chairmanship positions in the local government area elections.

This was announced by the Chief Election Officer of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Justice Adolphus Enebeli, on Saturday evening in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

Following the announcement, jubilant celebrations erupted across the state, with supporters of the APP and the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) taking to the streets to celebrate.

Several locals expressed their joy to journalists, stating that the victory brings hope of an end to the oppression by certain political actors determined to destabilize the state.

The PDP had withdrawn from the October 5 elections due to a growing political rift between the camps of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

In response to the victory, APP National Chairman Barr. Uchenna Nnadi thanked the people of Rivers State for their trust in the party, despite efforts to block the election through court injunctions.

He assured the public that APP is committed to liberating them from oppression and victimization, and transforming the local government areas.

Nnadi also promised that the party would bring positive change, ensuring that the newly elected chairmen work for the overall well-being of the people.

Nnadi said, “I’m happy and elated about the landslide victory. I thank God and I thank Rivers people for believing in the Action People’s Party, APP, despite attempts by some selfish individuals who are obsessed with holding on to power that don’t belong to them.

“Their attempts to secure baseless court injunctions failed woefully, Rivers people have spoken. And like I assured you before the election day, A vote for APP will end political oppression in Rivers State, I thereby welcome all party faithfuls. Let’s get work and give the Rivers Local government the positive change they are yearning for.”
