Death Rumours Of 91-Year-Old Cameroonian President Paul Biya Surface

President Paul Biya’s extended absence from public events, both domestically and internationally, has generated significant curiosity and speculation among Cameroonians regarding his current situation.

At 91 years old, Biya traveled abroad in early July for an official mission, first to France and then to China.

However, his conspicuous absence from major international events, including the UN General Assembly, has raised concerns.

Official statements indicate that Biya chose to rest in Switzerland rather than attend the UN meeting and also missed the recent La Francophonie summit in France.

This has fueled worries and rumors about his health and capacity to govern.

Biya, in power since 1982, is Africa’s second-longest-serving president and the world’s oldest head of state.

His foreign trips and absences have previously sparked controversy, with critics alleging that he seeks medical treatment abroad while Cameroon’s healthcare system struggles.

Concerns have also been raised about the impact of his prolonged absences on governance and stability in the country.

A presidential source has attributed his absence to health issues, according to Africa News.

Having served as Cameroon’s second president since November 6, 1982, after a term as prime minister, Biya’s advanced age has led to ongoing speculation about his ability to lead effectively.
