Reason Why Court Affirmed Julius Abure As Labour Party National Chairman

On Tuesday, the Federal High Court in Abuja declared Julius Abure as the legitimate National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP).

Justice Emeka Nwite, in his ruling, upheld the leadership led by Abure and affirmed the validity of the March 2024 Nnewi Convention that established the party’s national leadership.

The judge directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize Abure as the rightful chairman, countering INEC’s previous position that deemed his leadership invalid.

INEC had contended that the LP’s national convention violated the Constitution and Electoral Act, asserting that the party did not fulfill the legal requirements for holding the convention, and claimed Abure’s tenure would expire in June 2024.
