‘They Could Not Get 10 Percent’ – Wike Mocks PDP For Losing Rivers In Presidential Election

Nyesom Wike has ridiculed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for its inability to secure a victory in the presidential election in Rivers State last year.

A PDP chieftain in Rivers State, Austine Opara, stated that the successful conduct of the local government elections in the state, despite opposition, indicates that the people are weary of their oppressors.

Wike has asserted that Opara and others aligned with the PDP contributed to its failure in the 2023 election.

“They couldn’t even do a campaign, they didn’t get 10%. That’s a PDP state [Rivers State],”  Wike who is Minister of the FCT said on Tuesday’s edition of Channels Television’s Politics Today.

The former governor of Rivers State opposed his party, the PDP, during the 2023 presidential election after a fallout with its leadership due to his unsuccessful bid for the party’s ticket.

Instead, he endorsed Bola Tinubu, the candidate from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), contributing to Tinubu’s victory over Atiku Abubakar of the PDP.

Following the election, the president appointed him to his cabinet, despite Wike remaining a member of the PDP. In light of calls for his suspension from the party, Wike has stood by his decision.

“For the presidential election, I said I am going to support equity, fairness, and justice. In the other one, I am going to support my party and that is why we won the governor, National Assembly election,” he said on the show.

“For presidential, I have no apologies because I don’t believe in injustice. Today people say ‘discipline Wike, he did anti-party.’ No, I did not do anti-party,” the minister argued.

“I have no regret at all,” he said
