Opera is a multi-platform web browser developed by Opera Software, currently based on the Chromium engine.
It is available on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS (using the Safari WebKit engine).
Opera offers two active mobile versions: Opera Mobile and Opera Mini.

Additionally, it has a news aggregator app called Opera News, featuring Aria, an AI-powered search engine.
First released on April 10, 1995, Opera is one of the oldest desktop web browsers still in existence.
Initially, it was commercial software with its own proprietary layout engine, Presto. In 2013, Opera switched from Presto to Chromium.

Opera was originally developed in Norway but became a subsidiary of a Chinese-led investment group in 2016.
Opera Software went public on NASDAQ in 2018, and by the end of 2022, the consortium sold its shares, with Opera committing to repurchase its American Depository Shares to regain corporate independence.
However, by the end of 2023, Opera Software was still 72.4% owned by Kunlun, a Chinese public company, with Kunlun’s controlling shareholder, Opera CEO James Yahui Zhou.
In 2019, Opera launched Opera GX, a browser specifically designed for gamers, offering features like a built-in tracker, ad blocker, and resource limiters for CPU and RAM usage.
