BREAKING: Court Delivers Ruling On Binance Executive Gambaryan Fresh Bail Application

Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday denied the fresh bail application of Tigran Gambaryan, a detained Binance Holdings Executive.

Gambaryan’s lawyer, Mark Mordi (SAN), had argued on September 4 that his client’s health was in a “perilous” condition, citing the need for surgery due to a herniated disc and psychiatric care for depression and anxiety.

Mordi requested a six-week bail to allow Gambaryan to seek medical treatment outside of prison, emphasizing inadequate care in custody.

However, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) lawyer, Ekele Iheanacho, objected, arguing that Gambaryan’s condition was exaggerated and that he could receive appropriate treatment at Kuje Correctional Facility.

Iheanacho noted that Gambaryan had already been treated at reputable institutions like the State House Clinic and Nizamiye Hospital, where he reportedly refused treatment.

He asserted that there was no evidence indicating that his health issues could not be managed by the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS).

In his ruling, Justice Nwite rejected the bail request, stating that Gambaryan’s health was being adequately managed by renowned Nigerian medical experts.

However, the judge ordered that the NCS refer Gambaryan to a standard hospital in Abuja for treatment, with a duration of three days to two weeks, under security supervision.

The case was adjourned to October 18, 2024, and November 22 and 25, 2024, for trial continuation. Gambaryan is facing charges of laundering $35.4 million brought by the EFCC.
