Former Minister Sends Strong Warning To Tinubu On Looming Anarchy Amid Economic Hardship

Chief Nduese Essien, a former Minister of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, has urged the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government to reevaluate certain policies, cautioning that rising hunger and discontent among Nigerians could lead to potential unrest.

He stated that many of the government’s economic policies have worsened poverty and inflation, leaving millions of Nigerians fighting for survival.

In a statement released Wednesday in Abuja, the former federal lawmaker also condemned the swift removal of the fuel subsidy and other economic measures under the Tinubu administration, claiming they are causing extraordinary hardship for the population.

He stated that many of the government’s economic policies have worsened poverty and inflation, leaving millions of Nigerians fighting for survival.

“The level of suffering across the country is unprecedented, except perhaps during the Nigerian Civil War. Families are struggling to meet basic needs. The policies, while perhaps well-intentioned, are exacerbating poverty, increasing inflation, and hurting the most vulnerable among us”, he stated.

Essien urged the Federal Government to reconsider its approach and find a balance between reducing the fiscal deficit and preventing citizens from sinking further into poverty.

While he stressed the importance of fiscal discipline and reducing governance costs, the former Minister cautioned that “it is inhuman to continue on this path without a clear plan to ease the burden on the citizens.”

“Our leaders cannot continue to fritter the commonwealth of the country recklessly and ask the people to make sacrifices.

“If urgent action is not taken to stem the hunger, poverty, and discontent in the country, we risk losing the patience of the people, and that could result in dire consequences”, he warned.
