CAF Gives Fresh Directive To Libya, Nigeria

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has requested the Libyan Football Federation (LFF) to submit documents related to the cancellation of the 2025 AFCON qualifying Group D match against Nigeria.

The Super Eagles withdrew from the match, originally scheduled for October 15, after their plane was diverted to Labraq Airport, where players were reportedly held for 18 hours without access to food, water, or the internet.

Nasser Al-Suwaie, the Secretary-General of the LFF, confirmed in a statement that CAF has given both the Libyan and Nigerian football associations until October 20 to provide the necessary documentation.

Al-Suwaie noted that the LFF has engaged a lawyer to gather evidence, suggesting that there may be collusion among certain parties within CAF. However, he asserted that the position of the Libyan Federation is robust.

He emphasized that the LFF had no involvement in the decision to reroute the plane to Al-Abraq Airport, stating that it was a decision made by the Libyan state and that the sovereignty of Libya should be respected by all.
