Why I Fault Fayose For Backing Governor Oyebanji’s Re-Election – Bode George

Bode George, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has criticized former Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose for endorsing the re-election of the incumbent governor, Biodun Oyebanji, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In an appearance on Monday’s edition of Channels Television’s Politics Today, George expressed concern, stating that there must be something amiss if Fayose genuinely supports Oyebanji.

He added that the PDP will initiate an investigation into the actions of former governors from his ward to determine if Fayose should face sanctions for anti-party activities.

“If it is true that Governor Fayose openly rejected the party and stated that he is going to work for the APC governor, he has defined his direction. From his ward, they will make arrangement for that investigation within confines of Ekiti State before they will report.

“Ayo knows that you cannot say you are a member of this party and a former two-term governor of a party to now say you are working openly for the governor of the opposition party, something is wrong,” George said.

While appearing on Sunday Politics on October 13, Fayose praised Governor Oyebanji, stating that it would take a miracle for the PDP to defeat him in the 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State.

He said, “As at today I am a member of the PDP, the governor there is a member of the APC, but the meeting point is that I am a leader in Ekiti.

“Like I told you, it’s either we lie we die, or we say the truth we die. Governor Oyebanji has done exceedingly well.

“I don’t know the miracle that will defeat him except something changes between now and that election.

“Forget the party, let us be realistic – the PDP is in bad crisis in Ekiti too, anybody can come here and deny I don’t care”

George stated that the PDP can still resolve the ongoing crisis within the party. He acknowledged that it’s common for political parties to face challenging times but emphasized that the current situation in the PDP is not the best way to handle such issues.

He expressed disappointment that party members are allowing personal interests to disrupt the harmony within the PDP, asserting that the party’s interests must take precedence over individual agendas for lasting peace to be achieved.

George urged the conflicting party members to refrain from airing their grievances in public and to give peace a chance within the party.
