The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has declared that the local government elections held on Saturday by the State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) are illegal.
Rabi’u Bichi, a prominent member of the party, shared this viewpoint during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday in Kano.
“The party’s stance is informed by a court order by Justice Simon Amobeda of the Federal High Court, Kano, which still stands, and which has rendered the election null and void.
“The judge ruled that the leadership of KANSIEC was partisan and biased towards the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the state.
“Since the judgment has not been appealed, the APC considers any outcome of the election illegal,” he said.

The APC chieftain highlighted a recent Federal High Court ruling that annulled all NNPP chairmanship candidates for the upcoming elections, reinforcing the party’s stance that the election is illegal.
He urged party members to remain patient and await the outcome of the legal actions the party is pursuing to contest the election process.
According to NAN, KANSIEC chairman Sani Malumfashi emphasized that the commission is operating within legal parameters, stating, “Every activity of the commission is procedural. We are not partisan.” He called on KANSIEC staff and ad hoc personnel to resist bribery and ensure that underage individuals do not vote.
Malumfashi also reminded politicians that practices such as vote-buying, thuggery, and other forms of violence violate the state’s electoral guidelines.
He stressed that all advocates of democracy should respect Friday’s Kano High Court ruling, which permitted the election to move forward.
Earlier on Friday, Kano State High Court No. 15 confirmed KANSIEC’s authority to conduct the local government polls set for Saturday, October 24, 2024.
In his ruling, Justice Sanusi Ado Maaji noted that the Applicant had successfully made their case.
