Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Sunday that Israel’s recent strikes on Iran were a success, as Israeli forces continued to target locations in Gaza and Lebanon.
The strikes on Iranian military targets, carried out the previous day, raised concerns of escalating conflict in the Middle East and prompted calls for restraint from the international community.
In response to Iran’s request, an emergency UN Security Council meeting is scheduled for Monday, during which Tehran will seek condemnation of the Israeli strikes.
Iranian officials downplayed the significance of the attacks, claiming limited damage and the loss of four soldiers.

Netanyahu emphasized that the operations achieved their goals, particularly in retaliation for an Iranian missile attack on Israel on October 1, where around 200 missiles were launched, most of which were intercepted. He stated, “We kept our promise.
The air force attacked Iran and hit Iran’s defense capabilities and missile production.”
During a speech commemorating the anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attack, Netanyahu was interrupted by grieving relatives of the victims.
He faced mounting pressure to secure the release of hostages held in Gaza, with Israeli intelligence chief David Barnea set to meet with Qatari officials to discuss a potential deal.

Amid these tensions, a truck incident at a bus stop in central Israel resulted in one death and over two dozen injuries. Authorities have not confirmed whether it was an attack or an accident.
Separately, Israeli soldiers killed a man they claimed attempted to stab them, labeling it a “terror attack.”
Despite ongoing diplomatic efforts, military actions continued in Gaza and Lebanon, with reports of heavy bombardment in southern Beirut and surrounding areas.
The Israeli military stated it had killed 70 Hezbollah fighters and targeted 120 locations in Lebanon, while warning residents to evacuate areas near Hezbollah sites.
The conflict has resulted in significant casualties, with over 1,600 reported deaths in Lebanon since September 23.
In Gaza, Israeli strikes reportedly killed another 40 militants, while the UN expressed deep concern for the humanitarian situation of civilians in the region.
According to Gaza’s health ministry, at least 42,924 Palestinians have been killed since the conflict escalated a year ago, following the October 7 attack by Hamas, which killed over 1,200 people in Israel, mostly civilians.
The war has also drawn in Iranian-backed groups across the region.
