A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ilyasu Musa Kwankwaso, has emphasized that it would be in the North’s best interest to support President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election to help ensure power returns to the region in 2031.
He called on patriotic politicians to disregard efforts by certain individuals casting aspersions and launching negative campaigns against Tinubu. “We in the North must unite and work together to secure a reelection for Tinubu and Shettima in the 2027 general election,” Kwankwaso stated.
However, he cautioned northern politicians against aligning with a few dissenting voices advocating for an alternative Southern candidate in 2027.

Speaking with journalists on Sunday in Kano, Kwankwaso explained that if someone other than Tinubu wins in 2027, the North could face another eight-year wait before power might return to the region.
Kwankwaso further noted that those arguing security issues as grounds for opposition were not being fair to President Tinubu, who has implemented numerous measures to address the security challenges posed by armed banditry in the North.
According to him,” These set of politicians from the North who were routing and holding clandestine political meeting to dumped presidential president Tinubu,should have a rethink and weighing the political woe that would befell the north,if another president emerged from another political party besides the APC”
He suggested that those advocating for the former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to serve as a vice president under a Southerner are not being fair to the people of the North.
He stated that “It will be better for Northerners and in Northern interest to support President Tinubu|Shettima joint candidate for 2027 and this would enable power to return to the North come 2031!
“Any Southerner that some Northerners are thinking of supporting come 2027 will definitely want to spend 8 years , meaning power may return to the North come 2035.”
Kwankwaso further stated that the efforts of Minister of Defence Bello Matawalle in combating armed banditry in the North, particularly in the Northwest, are producing very positive results.
He said the best assistance” we the people from North can give to president Tinubu’,is to rally around him,with prayers and concerted effort to achieve peace in the country.”
