The 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) generated a total of N2.43 trillion in internally generated revenue (IGR) for the year 2023, as reported by the National Bureau of Statistics (NB).
This figure represents a 26.03% increase from the N1.93 trillion recorded in 2022.

According to the latest data, Lagos retained its position as the state with the highest IGR, followed by the FCT and Rivers State.
Below are the top ten states with the highest IGR for 2023 and their respective revenue figures:
- Lagos — N815.86 billion
- FCT — N211.1 billion
- Rivers — N195.41 billion
- Ogun — N146.88 billion
- Delta — N114.09 billion
- Edo — N64.67 billion
- Kaduna — N62.49 billion
- Kwara — N59.64 billion
- Oyo — N52.75 billion
- Akwa Ibom — N43.18 billion
In summary, the top ten IGR contributors include four states from the oil-rich South-South region, three from the South West, and one each from the North Central and North West.
Notably, no states from the South East or North East made it to the top ten.
