There has been renewed cult-related killings in Benin City the Edo State capital after a cult clash between two confraternities.
A source close to the scene of the clash in Upper Sakponba reported that eight people have died.

The cult war involves the Eiye and Vikings confraternities.
While the specific cause of the conflict remains unclear, it was reported that tensions escalated during a meeting aimed at resolving the dispute, which was held at Tipper Garage in the Idogbo area of Upper Sakponba Road.

The mediation efforts reportedly failed, leading to an attack by some members of the Eiye group on the Vikings, resulting in injuries from knife attacks, though no fatalities were reported at that time.
The source said, “The Vikings went back in their numbers and killed one of the top members of ‘Eiye’ which led to an escalation of the crisis and killing spree. The challenge in this is that one of the groups does not accept apology and the other does not apologise,” the source stated.
