With just one week remaining until the U.S. election, Vice President Kamala Harris addressed supporters from the Ellipse in Washington, DC — the same site where her opponent, former President Donald Trump, spoke to his supporters before the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack.
At the same time, Trump was in Allentown, Pennsylvania, two days after a comedian made controversial, racially charged remarks about Puerto Rico at his rally in New York, drawing widespread backlash.

With six days until the November 5 vote, both candidates, their running mates, and their allies are racing to consolidate support ahead of election day.
Latest polls update
The latest Reuters/Ipsos poll shows Harris’s lead over Trump narrowing as the election nears.
Nationally, she leads by a slim one-point margin over the Republicans, 44 percent to 43 percent, with a margin of error of about three points.
Harris’s advantage has been gradually shrinking since late September.
A Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted from October 16–21 showed her leading Trump by two points.

In a separate survey by Rasmussen, Harris faces a challenge in likability: 47 percent of likely voters view her favorably, with 33 percent holding a “very” favorable opinion. Conversely, 51 percent view her unfavorably, including 44 percent who hold a “very” unfavorable impression.
According to FiveThirtyEight’s national poll tracker, Harris maintains a 1.4-point lead, still within the margin of error.
In swing states, where the election’s outcome is most likely to be decided, the race is even closer.
These key battlegrounds include Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia, Michigan, Arizona, Wisconsin, and Nevada.
FiveThirtyEight’s tracker shows Harris with a narrow lead in Michigan and a slight edge in Nevada and Wisconsin, while Trump leads in Pennsylvania and has a stronger advantage in North Carolina, Arizona, and Georgia.
In all seven states, the candidates are separated by only two points or less, making each one a toss-up with just days left until the final vote.
