Harris Vs Trump: Arnold Schwarzenegger Endorses Candidate

Arnold Schwarzenegger, the former Republican governor of California, announced on Wednesday that he will endorse Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz in an unusual move.

“To someone like me who talks to people all over the world and still knows America is the shining city on a hill, calling America is a trash can for the world is so unpatriotic, it makes me furious. And I will always be an American before I am a Republican. That’s why, this week, I am voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz,” Schwarzenegger said in a post on X.

The renowned actor and longtime Republican voiced criticism of Donald Trump, stating that a second term for the former president would lead to a society that is “angrier and angrier, more divided, and more hateful.”

“He will divide, he will insult, he will find new ways to be more un-American than he already has been, and we, the people, will get nothing but more anger,” Schwarzenegger said.

Last week, Trump criticized illegal immigration during a campaign rally in Arizona, declaring that the US is “like a garbage can for the world.”

Schwarzenegger has consistently voiced his disapproval of the former president in recent years.

In the aftermath of the January 6, 2021, insurrection, Schwarzenegger stated that Trump would be remembered as the worst president in US history and called for national unity among Americans.

After Trump emerged as the leading candidate for the GOP nomination last year, Schwarzenegger shared his thoughts with CNN’s Dana Bash, predicting that Trump would lose the 2024 election due to the challenges Republicans have faced with him at the helm of the party.

“It’s sad to see that. That they couldn’t come up with a new talent, with a new face, that is a reasonable, smart, intelligent person that can lead this country in a Republican way,” he told Bash.

The rivalry between the two dates back to Trump’s first term when Schwarzenegger took over the former president’s popular show, “The Celebrity Apprentice,” in 2015. In 2017, Trump criticized the show’s ratings, which was now called “The New Celebrity Apprentice,” prompting Schwarzenegger to respond, “Hey Donald, I have a great idea. Why don’t we switch jobs?” Schwarzenegger ultimately severed ties with the show that same year.

In his Wednesday post, Schwarzenegger added: “I want to move forward as a country, and even though I have plenty of disagreements with their platform, I think the only way to do that is with Harris and Walz.”
