With less than a week until election day, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump held competing events in the key swing states of Wisconsin and North Carolina, both vying for undecided voters.
Harris urged Americans to “stop pointing fingers” as she sought to move past President Joe Biden’s remarks that appeared to label Trump supporters as “garbage.”

In a provocative move, Trump took a ride in a white garbage truck emblazoned with his name to spotlight Biden’s comments.
According to the University of Florida’s Election Lab, over 50 million Americans have already cast their votes, comprising approximately 29.3 million in-person ballots and around 26 million mail-in votes.

Recent polls from The Economist/YouGov and TIPP Insights show Harris with a slight edge, garnering 44% support compared to Trump’s 43%.

However, a separate poll by The Washington Post and George Mason University indicates voter anxiety over Trump’s possible reaction to a loss, recalling the violent January 6 Capitol riots following the 2020 election.
Of over 5,000 registered voters in key battleground states, 57% expressed concern about potential violence from Trump’s supporters if he loses, while only 31% felt the same about Harris’s supporters.
FiveThirtyEight’s National poll tracker shows Harris leading nationally by about 1.4 points as of Wednesday, but this margin is within the error range, highlighting a highly competitive race.
In swing states, which are crucial for determining the election outcome, the contest is even tighter. Key battleground states include Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia, Michigan, Arizona, Wisconsin, and Nevada.
According to FiveThirtyEight, Harris’s narrow lead in Michigan has increased from 0.2 points to 1 point, and she holds a slight advantage in Nevada, while her lead in Wisconsin has grown to 0.8 points.
Conversely, Trump has gained a slight edge in Pennsylvania, rising from 0.2 to 0.4 points, and his lead in North Carolina has narrowed from 1.3 to 1.1 points.
Trump is also performing well in Arizona, where he leads Harris by 2.2 points, and in Georgia, where his advantage is 1.8 points.
In six of the seven swing states, the candidates are within two points of each other, which falls within the polls’ margins of error, making these states highly contested just days before the election.
Despite Trump’s 2.1-point lead in Arizona, it remains close to the three-point margin of error.
