Can celebrity influence sway voters in the U.S. presidential election?
With numerous top music and film stars rallying behind her, Democratic nominee Kamala Harris is certainly banking on it.
Historically, Democrats have benefited from a “celebrity advantage,” a trend that has only grown with Republican Donald Trump’s rise in politics.

However, as seen with Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign, celebrity endorsements don’t always translate into electoral success.
A recent YouGov poll found that around 11% of Americans say a celebrity has influenced them to reconsider their political views, and 7% have supported a candidate due to a celebrity endorsement.
As the 2024 U.S. election approaches, here’s a look at some of the stars backing Kamala Harris.
The Avengers
In a social media clip shared by Hulk actor Mark Ruffalo, the Avengers came together to show their support for Harris. Stars like Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Don Cheadle, and Paul Bettany urged voters to consider issues like climate change, education, and reproductive rights. Taylor Swift
Pop star Taylor Swift voiced her support for Harris in September, sharing a photo of herself holding her cat, in a nod to Trump’s running mate JD Vance’s “childless cat lady” remark. Arnold Schwarzenegger
Although a former Republican governor of California, Schwarzenegger announced he would vote for Harris, stating, “I am an American before I am a Republican.” He criticized Trump’s refusal to accept the 2020 election results, calling it “un-American” and urging the nation to “move on from this divisive chapter.”
Jennifer Lopez
During a rally in Las Vegas, Lopez responded to comments made at a Trump rally calling Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage.” She said, “You can’t spell American without Rican,” expressing pride in her heritage and support for Harris.

British pop star Charli XCX inspired Harris to embrace a “brat summer,” reflecting a lifestyle focused on confidence, independence, and freedom. Charli XCX said she supported Harris as a stand for democracy and women’s rights.
Bruce Springsteen
Rock legend Bruce Springsteen has voiced support for Harris, saying at a rally in Georgia that Trump “doesn’t understand this country or what it means to be American.” He emphasized Harris’s commitment to democracy and women’s rights.

At a Detroit rally, Eminem introduced Barack Obama and expressed support for Harris, advocating for a future where freedoms are protected.
