In response to the widespread outrage over the arrest and arraignment of minors involved in the #EndBadGovernance protests held across the country in August, President Bola Tinubu on Monday ordered the immediate release of all detained children.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, announced this to State House correspondents following the swearing-in of seven newly appointed ministers approved by the Senate.
According to Idris, the President directed that the minors be released immediately, without affecting any ongoing legal proceedings.
Additionally, Tinubu instructed the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction to ensure the welfare of the minors and facilitate their safe reunion with their families or guardians nationwide.
The President also called for the establishment of a committee, led by the humanitarian affairs ministry, to investigate the circumstances surrounding the minors’ arrest, detention, treatment, and eventual release.
