The new Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has eliminated the 18-year age requirement for admission into the country’s tertiary institutions.
He also indicated that a review of Nigeria’s education policy may be on the horizon.
However, Alausa affirmed that the Federal Government would not reverse its decision to invalidate over 22,700 degree certificates obtained by Nigerians from unrecognized universities in neighboring Togo and the Benin Republic.

Speaking at his inaugural ministerial press conference on Wednesday in Abuja, Alausa emphasized the need for a more practical approach to education, noting it could significantly reduce unemployment.
He highlighted that tertiary institutions should not simply produce graduates yearly without ensuring they have employment prospects.
Additionally, Alausa mentioned plans for the government to collaborate with private sector partners to train students and unlock their potential.
He also stated that universities focused on agriculture would be supported to adopt commercial farming practices, aiming to tackle food insecurity.
