Kamala Harris has called Donald Trump to concede defeat in the U.S. presidential election.
A senior adviser to the vice president said she talked about “the importance of a peaceful transfer of power and being a president for all Americans”.
Ms. Harris is scheduled to deliver a concession speech later today.
This follows Mr. Trump’s declaration that he has won “an unprecedented and powerful mandate”.

Earlier, Mr. Trump addressed his supporters, saying, “We’re going to help our country heal.
“We have a country that needs help, and it needs help very badly. We’re going to fix our borders. We’re going to fix everything about our country and we’ve made history for a reason tonight.”
Mr. Trump’s Republican Party also gained control of the Senate from the Democrats.
Ms. Harris ran as the Democratic candidate for the White House after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race in June due to concerns about his age following a debate with Mr. Trump.
As Vice President, she is expected to preside over the ceremonial certification of the election results in the U.S. Congress.
Her future role within the Democratic Party remains uncertain.
