Kaduna Government Gifts ₦100,000, Smartphones To Released Protesters

Governor Sani Uba of Kaduna State has provided ₦100,000 and smartphones to the recently released #EndBadGovernance protesters.

He also pledged to rehabilitate the 39 protesters from Kaduna and offer empowerment opportunities if they commit to positive change.

Speaking on behalf of Governor Sani, the Secretary to the Kaduna State Government, Abdulkadir Meyere, announced that the governor had instructed him to gather the credentials of those among the protesters who have completed tertiary education.

“The Governor promised that some of them will be given start-up capitals to commence trading, others will be taught skills and some will be given employment,” he said.

The SSG also mentioned that the Kaduna State Government will monitor the actions and behavior of all 39 released #EndBadGovernance protesters to ensure they maintain good conduct before any promised benefits are extended to them.

He said, “The state government has taken the details of the released detainees including contact addresses, telephone numbers, and names of their next of kin, for easy tracking and monitoring”.

He stated that the released #EndBadGovernance protesters underwent medical examinations and received psycho-social counseling to encourage positive change, helping them become more productive for themselves and society.

“Both Islamic and Christian religious leaders preached to them to embrace the teachings of their faiths and to avoid bad company, so as to benefit from God’s blessings here and in the hereafter,” he said.

The protests occurred in August due to the harsh economic conditions in Nigeria. Initially peaceful, they eventually escalated into violent demonstrations in certain areas, resulting in the destruction of property.
