The funeral service for the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, who passed away at the age of 56 on November 5, has concluded at the National Christian Centre in Abuja.
The remains of the late Army Chief arrived at the church at 11:17 a.m. in a military motorcade, accompanied by a military pipe band and horsemen.
Among those in attendance were the First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, as well as high-ranking government officials, including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, other service chiefs, and officers of the Nigerian Armed Forces were also present.
In her tribute, the First Lady praised Lt.-Gen. Lagbaja as an “exemplary man” whose legacy would continue to be celebrated by the nation.

“He had fought the good fight, he had finished his place. He kept the faith. Henceforth laid up for him a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give him at that table.
“And I believe he has received his crown. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Mrs Maria, children, family, friends, colleagues and associates.
“May Almighty God comfort and grant him and all the comfort and grant of the family members. May his gentle soul rest in peace,” she said.
In his sermon titled “The Life of Victory,” Lt.-Col. T.E. Ogbonyomi, Director of Chaplaincy Services (Army), emphasized that victory is a desire that God holds for all who serve Him.
He reflected on the late Army Chief’s remarkable legacy, noting how he transformed the Nigerian Army into a highly motivated and effective force, especially in joint operations for the defense of the nation.
Ogbonyomi praised the late General Lagbaja for initiating and implementing several key strategies that ensured the success and readiness of the army.
He added that Lagbaja’s life and work were aligned with biblical principles, and his impact on the army would be remembered for years to come.
Prayers were offered for the repose of the late Chief of Army Staff, his family, and the Nigerian Army.
The late COAS will be laid to rest at the National Military Cemetery at 2:00 pm.
President Bola Tinubu, along with other top government officials, is expected to attend the ceremony and participate in the laying of wreaths.
