An Israeli airstrike targeting a building in central Beirut has killed Mohammad Afif, the spokesman for Hezbollah, according to officials from the Lebanese militant group.
The attack, which took place on Sunday in the densely populated Ras al-Nabaa district, also left three others injured.
The building was struck without warning, officials said, and many Lebanese who had fled Israel’s ongoing bombardment in Beirut’s southern suburbs had taken refuge in the area.

The Israeli military did not issue any prior evacuation orders for the location before the deadly strike, which was confirmed on Israel’s official social media platform, X.
“This is clearly part of Israel’s broader strategy to target not only Hezbollah’s military wing but also its administrative and political leadership,” said Al Jazeera correspondent Dorsa Jabbari. “Israel appears to be attempting to weaken the group’s capabilities across all sectors—military, economic, social, and political.”
Afif had served as the manager of Hezbollah’s Al-Manar television station for years before assuming the role of the group’s chief media relations officer.

He frequently held press conferences from the rubble of Beirut’s southern suburbs, areas that have been heavily damaged by Israeli airstrikes in recent weeks.
In his most recent statement to the media on November 11, Afif asserted that Israeli forces had failed to gain any ground in Lebanon and that Hezbollah had the resources and weapons to sustain a prolonged conflict.
His death marks the latest in a series of high-profile assassinations of Hezbollah leaders, including the group’s chief, Hassan Nasrallah, following Israel’s intensified military operations in Lebanon.
Nasrallah was reportedly killed in an Israeli strike on a residential building in Beirut’s Dahiyeh neighborhood in late September, as Israel ramped up its airstrikes after a year of sporadic border skirmishes.
