Names Of Those To Accompany Tinubu To Rio de Janeiro

President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Sunday for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to attend the 19th G20 Leaders’ Summit.

The summit, scheduled to take place from Monday, November 18, to Tuesday, November 19, will bring together leaders from the world’s top 20 economies, along with representatives from the European Union, the African Union, and key multilateral financial institutions.

According to a statement from presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the Nigerian President’s participation is at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who currently chairs the G20.

This year’s summit is themed “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet.” Discussions will focus on addressing global challenges such as hunger, poverty, the reform of global governance institutions, and advancing sustainable development and energy transition. Nigeria, a strong proponent of reforming international governance structures, continues to push for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.

In addition to the main summit, President Tinubu is expected to hold several bilateral meetings aimed at advancing Nigeria’s socio-economic reforms.

The president will be joined by senior government officials, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha; the Minister of Art, Tourism, Culture and Creativity, Hannatu Musawa; the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi; and the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.

President Tinubu is scheduled to return to Abuja upon the conclusion of the summit.
