According to a statement from presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the Nigerian President’s participation is at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who currently chairs the G20.

This year’s summit is themed “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet.” Discussions will focus on addressing global challenges such as hunger, poverty, the reform of global governance institutions, and advancing sustainable development and energy transition. Nigeria, a strong proponent of reforming international governance structures, continues to push for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.
In addition to the main summit, President Tinubu is expected to hold several bilateral meetings aimed at advancing Nigeria’s socio-economic reforms.
President Tinubu is scheduled to return to Abuja upon the conclusion of the summit.
