Aiyedatiwa Speaks On Akeredolu After Election Victory

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, still basking in the euphoria of his re-election for a second term, paid a heartfelt tribute to his late mentor, Rotimi Akeredolu.

Akeredolu, the former governor of Ondo State, passed away in December of the previous year after a prolonged battle with prostate cancer. Aiyedatiwa succeeded him as governor.

Aiyedatiwa, the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), was declared the winner of the recent election after defeating his closest rival, Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Governor Aiyedatiwa dedicated his victory to the memory of his late predecessor, expressing a wish that Akeredolu could have been present to witness the announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“The Lord gives and takes but today he is no more,” the governor said in an emotional-laden voice.

“How I wish he was present in that banquet hall when I was declared in the company of other brother governors. That would have been really good but God knows better.”

Aiyedatiwa, the current governor, secured 366,781 votes to triumph over his nearest competitor, Ajayi Agboola, the former deputy governor of the state and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 117,845 votes.
