In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, the coalition’s spokesman, Rep. Ikenga Ugochinyere (PDP-Imo), made the call, accusing some national leaders of the party of collaborating with members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to keep Iliyasu Damagum in office as national chairman beyond 2027.
Ugochinyere further alleged that there was a deliberate attempt to block a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting that would allow the election of a new chairman from the North Central, where the position was initially designated to come from.

He claimed that certain individuals within the PDP were acting as impostors, and that APC members were now mocking the PDP, as they appeared to be working to undermine their own party.
The lawmaker also emphasized that the reasons given since last year for delaying the NEC meeting to elect new leadership were no longer valid.
