Al-Qalam University To Confer Late Yar’adua With Doctorate Degree, Others

The Vice-Chancellor of Al-Qalam University, Katsina, Prof. Nasiru Musa-Yauri, has announced that the institution will posthumously award a Doctorate Degree in Letters to the late President Umaru Yar’adua during its 16th convocation.

Prof. Musa-Yauri made the revelation at a press briefing in Katsina on Monday, confirming that the award will be presented at the convocation ceremony scheduled for Saturday.

Additionally, the late Walin Daura, Alhaji Sani Buhari, and Alhaji Dahiru Mangal will each be honored with a Doctor of Business Administration degree, while Alhaji Bilya Sanda will receive a Doctor of Islamic Studies.

He added, “We are excited to be joining the league of Nigerian Universities that have embraced the deeply rooted academic culture of annual convocation ceremonies.

“Last year, we held the convocation ceremony in November, which celebrated up to 15th set of graduates of this university.

“This convocation is for the graduates of the 2023/2024 session, with 1,433 graduates who have successfully completed their degree programmes.

“During the event, 22 of them will be conferred with the first class honour, 218 second class upper, 641 second class lower, 499 third class, and 53 pass degrees.”

Mr. Musa-Yauri announced that seven postgraduate students will be awarded Doctor of Philosophy degrees, two will receive MSc degrees, and twelve will be granted professional Master’s degrees.

He also shared that a novelty football match will be held on Wednesday, featuring a showdown between the university’s alumni and current students.

In addition, he revealed that the final of the university’s Quranic recitation competition is scheduled for Thursday.

“The public will recall that in celebrating our convocation last year, we instituted an annual Quranic recitation competition that will be taking place every year, together with the convocation ceremony.

“I am pleased to also announce that this year again, the Chancellor of the university, Alhaji Aminu Dantata has donated N12 million to all the participants in the different categories of the competition,” he said.

He announced that a pre-convocation lecture would be held on Friday, featuring Dr. Ahmed Bello-Dogarawa, who will present on the topic, “The Unfolding Liberalisation and Tax Reforms in Nigeria: Our Economic Realities are Consistent with Policy Direction.”
