EFCC, Sowore Clash Over Unnamed Owner Of 753 Forfeited Duplexes In Abuja

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Omoyele Sowore, the former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), clashed on Tuesday over the non-disclosure of the identity of a former government official linked to the forfeited 753 duplexes in Abuja.

Sowore accused the EFCC of engaging in public relations for what he called “criminals,” while the EFCC countered by branding the activist as unpatriotic for failing to join other Nigerians in celebrating the commission’s “landmark recovery.”

On Monday, the EFCC had announced that Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the Federal Capital Territory High Court ordered the forfeiture of an Abuja estate covering 150,500 square meters, which contains 753 duplexes and other apartments, to the government.

The commission revealed that the forfeited property, located at Plot 109 Cadastral Zone C09 in the Lokogoma District of Abuja, belonged to an unnamed government official.

They further stated that this was the largest asset recovery since the EFCC’s establishment in 2003.

However, Sowore criticized the EFCC for withholding the owner’s identity, suggesting that the agency was afraid to expose the powerful individuals behind such large-scale corruption.
